Statement on the proposed investment in Philadelphia sports facilities
Joe Massaro, president & CEO of the Pennsylvania Restaurant & Lodging Association

The Pennsylvania Restaurant & Lodging Association is proud to support both the potential development project in the Stadium District in South Philadelphia and 76Place in Center City. PRLA is eager to have the opportunity to engage with all parties on how these projects could significantly benefit the hospitality and tourism sector and the many different communities who benefit from those industries in the city.

As the organization that represents Pennsylvania's hospitality and tourism industries, we welcome hospitality-driven projects and investments that will lift up our industry by creating new businesses, jobs, and visitor experiences.

The hospitality industry offers first jobs, second chances, and unlimited career opportunities and possibilities. Individuals can enter the hospitality industry from any educational level and attain success. Restaurants and food service jobs represent 8% of employment in the state and are projected to reach nearly 9% by 2030. Additionally, every $1 spent in a Pennsylvania restaurant generates $2.13 into the state economy.

Travel and tourism are huge economic drivers for the City of Philadelphia and the 5-county region, with visitor spending generating over $6 billion in Philadelphia and $11.6 billion in the 5-county region in 2022 [source].

These proposed new projects in Center City and South Philadelphia provide the potential to enrich visitor experiences in exciting ways, and we are proud to support both.
